Brooks, an 80-pound Lab, came to us from an overcrowded shelter in North Carolina. Animal control took him from his previous home due to neglect. Amazingly, he is a very sweet dog who gets along well with people, including kids, other dogs, and cats. He is only 1½ years old but is already calm and easygoing. He has good house manners and is well-behaved on a leash.
Brooks loves playing with other dogs but isn’t really interested in toys. He is cautious around new people and will shy away from loud voices. However, once he is comfortable, he will jump up seeking the attention he loves.
Unfortunately, Brooks came to us with heartworms. We’ve begun his treatment, but it is a 4-month protocol involving lab tests, medications, and injections to kill the heartworms without harming Brooks in the process. It is also an expensive treatment, estimated to be $1,000-$1,400 depending on the amount of medication and testing he’ll need before the heartworms are gone from his system.
Please help us pay for Brooks’ treatment, as our resources are limited these days. He’s a wonderful dog that needs a second chance at a happy life with a loving family. Donations can be made online via PayPal.
And keep him in mind—he’ll be ready for new adventures in just a few months.
