Darling Lucky was a gem … just the kind of dog any family would want. He was sick when he came out of the shelter, with breathing problems that turned out to be pneumonia. Over the next few months, with constant vet visits, various antibiotics, and other meds, we searched for a solution to cure him for good. His breathing would improve and then become difficult again. Throughout it all, he was a happy, playful boy between periods of breathing struggles.
One day, he went to bed for a nap and simply did not wake up. We think now that, in addition to the pneumonia, he also had a sort of pulmonary fibrosis in which the lining of the lungs hardens and becomes progressively worse. Symptoms similar to pneumonia—difficult to diagnose. Another disease with no cure, another one we couldn’t fix.
We are happy that Lucky came to stay with us for a while and cherish the time we had with him.
